I think you'd struggle getting them insured in the UK.I don't have insurance, can't think of anyone who has on here. I think a few people just set up a deal with their vet where they pay money to them every month just incase something ever happens x

None of mine are insured. Our dog Nanook is and we were very thankful when she developed pyometra (a lot of insurance companies will NOT cover this!!). You could also try Exotics Direct.

The best one I found was with exoticdirect but never made my mind up on whether I wanted to take insurance out. I have a credit card with 0% if anything happened so I think I might just stick with that Marie, what kind of dog is Nanook, and what (in laymen's terms) was the medical issue?

Lol Emma & Helen! Nook is an Alaskan Malamute and pyometra is where the womb fills with pus, there are two types, open and closed. Open is not so bad as the pus comes out via the exit . Closed is when the pus can't escape anywhere and it leaks in to the blood stream causing kidney damage or failure (Nook had failure). If left undetected the womb can rupture and the dog will die from septic shock! In Nook's case, we took her to the vet who didn't even bother to look at her proprly and sent us home with some anti biotics, he said it was a womb infection and we should think about getting her spayed. The next day she was still in obvious pain and vomitted all day. Lond story short, next day we took her to a different vets, he admitted her immediately and she had her womb removed a few hours later. Her kidneys failed and she had to stay in at the vets for 3 days (2 nights)! We were very lucky, we were too close to losing her - her womb was 10 times the size it should have been!!!

Bloody hell Marie, that sounds horrific, poor girl thank god you found a vet that knew what they were doing. I hope you gave the other vet hell. We actually have 3 Emma ... we've got a neutered male called Demon! He's a husky/mal cross which we rescued from the RSPCA! And it's all Jen's fault
