Hi Jess, welcome to SGF  Cheesy

As Emma has said have a good old nose around and ask as many questions as you like, most of them will be answered sensibly ... hopefully - but I can't promise!

Welcome! So are you seriously looking into owning your own pair then? How exciting! I could recommend a better site to learn from!

Lol, Jess!  As my signature would sugget ... I'm in Shropshire, which is the West Midlands  Grin.  I have just started breeding suggies again, early days though, nothing out of pouch yet.  Most of my gliders are golden oldies so have been retired from breeding for a year or 2, but I now have some younguns!  Grin

I hope ya manage to find a pair then once ya ready! They can be hard to come by, which really isn't such a bad thing I don't think. I think standard price is about £300 for

Any idea what ya mite want? Males, females, ages etc? Most people want joeys, I know I did when I got mine. But they're pretty much adult sized at around 10 week anyway and can take a long time to bond. Me and Emma (on here) have had our girls for about 6-8 months and we still cant hold them.
However, i got a 2yr old boy a few month ago and he is soppy soft, will sleep in my hand, pocket, up my sleeve etc, so don't go for babies in the view that they will bond the best because there are a few of us, inc me, who's most bonded suggies have been adults! And considering they can live for upto 15years, 2 yrs old isn't REALLY old ... lol x

Originally I had my heart set on Joeys, just because I would like to watch them grow but I've changed my mind and now I know that I want to adopt, I did set up an account on Preloved and there are a few people selling standard adult sugar gliders on there I have replied to every single one and I haven't had any response from any of the advertisements  Cry

Originally I did want a breeding pair, but I hear the males smell quite alot, and they'll be kept in my bedroom (me and my parents made an agreement  Tongue) but again now I have changed my mind and I think I'm going to have 2 girls Smiley

Has any one here had their males neutered if so how bad was the smell before and after? seeing as you guys have had first hand experience Smiley xx

I started with my two female's (sisters) and they were in my living room. I lived in a flat so my bedroom was enxt to my living room. I only ever heard them at night if they decided to bark. They can bark quite loud lol. I once slept in the living room (just comfy on the sofa lol) and they did keep me up a little when they were playing, just bouncing from the bars and clanging. So be wary they can get a little noisy at night. They will also destroy your walls! I had them in the corner of the room against cream walls (BIG mistake) and within days there were splats of food everywhere. It washed off ok but took abit of paint with it. I was charged for re-painting of the walls when I moved out because of it.

As for the smell, I never noticed any smell from my girls. I now have an un-neutured male tho who I am planning on housing with them in the next month or so. I want to breed but as my girls are still only about 10month old I want to wait until they are at least 1. Stitch (my boy) doesn't really smell as such but his wee STINKS! And of course they wee a few times a day, all down the cage and all over you when you're handling them. He's fed exactly the same diet as my girls so it isn't the food. But it really is strong smelling and if you don't keep on top of it, it does get abit over powering. Its not a completly disgusting smell, more like a wierd fruity/musty stink lol.

Also, males do scent mark things. Everything actually. I've been scented more times than I can remember.

I think that this is due to testosterone as it is said that neutured males don't smell half as bad as intact males. But I guess it depends on whether you want to breed, whether you have a cage big enough to breed, whether you have a cage that is practical for thorough daily cleaning as some have to be half taken apart to clean properly. x

i have both neutered males and a unneutered male. Neither smell as such, but there is less scent from the neuters obviosuly as they dont need to mark their territory as much.

But my yellow scent stained dude doesnt really smell. Its more of a musky odour then anything...
