Hiya,

I have lots and lots of diet questions  Embarrassed Apologies in advance

With supplements do they need gliderade, nutraglider, glider booster, glidercal, bee pollen, pure Acacia gum and fruit mix gumivore fare? do they need all of those? obviously to be given in the right amount, when they should be given

Are insectivore fare and/or monkey biscuits needed for their diet? to be put out during the day or to be added on the night when they are fed? or both?

I will be using some native but always non-toxic plants that sugar gliders have been know to drink the nectar off ect... so because in captivity people recommend a 2:1 Ca:P ratio for a gliders diet but because of the plants, if the gliders did eat the sap or nectar then would that take the ratio off balance? could it be harmful to them if the ratio goes off balance?
If that makes any sense...

Can you feed frozen fruit and veg if thawed out? I was just thinking it will last longer than fresh but if fresh is better then thats what I would stick too

Again sorry for all the questions  Embarrassed

Important supplements they NEED are the gliderbooster and the glidercal. The glider booster is a vitamin supplement and the glider cal is a calcium powder. If your fruit mush doesnt make up to 2:1 i add a little of both of these. I also keep acacia gum and gumnivore fare in the cupboards all the time and i deem these as a necessity too, but less important then the cal and booster. Acacia gum is a natural food for them and does wonders for their skin and coats. It can also be made into a paste and stuffed into holes in branches or toys to make an enrichment game. Gumnivore fare also contains acacia gum alongside some fruit mix, and my gliders love it. I use acacia gum 2-3 times a week (depending on the glider and the food mix, and gumnivore fare twice a week. Bee pollen is another natural diet for them which they love. I dont have as much experience with bee pollen so cannot give you any insight on it, but im ordering it very soon.

Are insectivore fare and/or monkey biscuits needed for their diet? to be put out during the day or to be added on the night when they are fed? or both?

ive never used insectivore fare, and monkey biscuits i use more of a treat. So no, i do not find them a needed item, but a nice side item. What i do with monkey biscuits is soak them in fruit juice and offer them to the glider, in the bowl of fruit juice. The juice is soaked up into the biscuit and the biscuit is softened for them, so i know they are eating it all and getting all the goodness from the fruit juice i have given them

I wouldnt imagine it would knock the diets off to much as such. It would give them extra vitamins yes, but tbh, i really wouldnt bother putting live plants in your gliders viv. You will end up having to replace it nearly every other night. Some people put eucalyptis branches in every now and again for enrichment and added nutrition at times, but most keepers used reptile branches as they last alot longer. If ratios go off balance too much, then they would get either too much calcium or too little, both of which have negative effects on a gliders health. But if its thrown occasionly, it shoudlnt have long term effects.

Can you feed frozen fruit and veg if thawed out? I was just thinking it will last longer than fresh but if fresh is better then thats what I would stick too

Yes, quite alot of people do this. In fact, most people do this.

By 'frozen fruit and veg' do you mean pre-bought packets of fruit and veg or do you mean buying fresh, making into a mush and freezing yourself? I wouldn't buy already frozen foods. Also, you can't really buy frozen papaya, mago etc and most of the fruit ones contain grapes which I wouldn't feed at all.

Bee Pollen is a good protein suppliment, I put a teaspoon full into the batch of fruit/veg I make before I freeze it, along with half a teaspoon of acacia gum x

Thanks for that, it was a lot of help

With live plants, I thought they might destroy them but I might try a couple to see how they go, if they go ok then I'll add more but if they get destroyed I can leave it  Smiley

Do you feed any livefood to yours? I was thinking about feeding mealworms and roaches for a bit of protein or would it be better as a treat? because I read livefood doesn't really have a lot of protein

Live foods are more a treat cuz the nutritional value is pretty poor.

My two girls won't touch mealies, go no interest in them. Tried a few tiems and wasted em all. I bought a few wax worms in for my new boy as I was told he loves them. Tried my girls with them again, to begin with, 1 went mad for them, the other wasn't bothered .... until she saw that her sister was eating and stole it out of her mouth regardless of the fact she'd jsut turned her nose up. She can't be left out lol. So now they all eat wax worms but only as a treat every so often. They are like chocolate to em, fills em up but contains VERY little protein/nutritional value. It's just a nice treat change from yogurts x

mine hardly ever get them.

I tried them with locusts a few times, and everyone bar one loved them! Morios are a firm favourite, but one glider i have seems to be scared of them! lol will only eat it once its still.

I feed mine treats such as yogurt drops, yogurt lids, dried fruit and pasta. Loves pasta. Unseasoned with no sauce, boiled pasta.

I breed roaches for my geckos and tarantulas so the suggies could always have a couple for a little treat if they are interested in them,
I buy plenty of dried fruit for me, so thats also another little treat they could have from time to time  Smiley

at the risk of being repetitive...... points up to what they said. My suggies get meal/morioworms or waxworms as a treat about once every 5/6 weeks. In the period they don't get this, they occassionally get some banana (because they like it... alot, and as it has such a terrible ratio) or monkey biscuits and healthy yoghurt.

Mine love banana too .... shame about the ratio. I bet it would be nice in a fruit smoothie mix .... until you add the veg of course lol. I always try mine once i've made it, even with veg in. Sometimes it aint too bad lol x

I've been tempted, but on occasions, the mix looks bad and is a put off. Yet the suggies lap it up lol
