Hiya, Sorry about all the threads, I'm posting I live in apartments so I was wondering if Sugar gliders might be too noisey to keep? I'm mainly talking about the barking on the night? My Aunty is my landlady and she doesn't have any issues with me keeping them in the future, I'm just concerned about them waking up my neighbours above me, During the bonding process how likely is it that I would be bitten? or does it depend on the individual? Do their bites hurt? I have been bitten by a hamster, ferret ect... which wasn't very nice

i live in an upstairs flat with a downstairs neighbour and a neighbour to the right. they have never mentioned any noises or nothing. They can bark quite loudly, but i doubt it would be enough to wake a person who is upstairs.
It depends on the gliders as to how likely you are to be bitten. Ive recently aquired 2 new gliders. During bonding, the female hasnt bitten or nipped me once, but the male nips all the time. It doesnt hurt as such he doesnt draw blood or anything, but it is uncomfortable, more of a fright then anything.
Gliders done usually bite to be aggressive, and when they do, they give you plenty of warning signs. Most nips during bonding are because they are scared ro nervous of you, or because they are not sure if you are food.
A hamster bite is very, very painful. Id imagine a proper suggie bite to be on par with that, but as i said, they very rarely bite out of aggression, and a bonding nip is more like when you get nipped.

My girls have started to nip recently, not for any particular reason I can think of, they just seem to like chewing the webby bits between my fingers.... doesn't hurt but it's not very nice. They can crab a LOT when you first get them, sounds quite intimidating too lol, and they will often lunge if you try and put you hand in their pouch but if they do don't take you hand out. Just keep it still until they calm down, maybe don't go in empty handed to begin with. My two had never nipped me until a few week ago, not sure what's made them start lol but it doesn't bother me too much x

I was wondering if it might be worth having a word with my neighbours nearer the time? but I wouldn't want to cause myself more trouble by mentioning them to my neighbours, I don't want to scare them or anything lol! Although with them being in a viv, that should keep make the barking a tiny bit quieter than if they was in a cage plus the walls and doors, so I can't really see it being a problem but I have only heard the barking on youtube videos With the biting and nipping, I guess its only something I will know how painful it is, if or when it happens I have had a proper bite... Not something I'd like to repeat What caused the glider to give you a "proper bite"? I've heard crabbing only on videos but it doesn't seem too bad but I guess when its in front of you it will be a bit more intimidating, lol! If they do nip or crab, whats the best thing to do to get them to stop doing it? just to keep my hand still, not give them a treat, until they stop nipping or crabbing?

after one rather loud night, i apologised to my neighbours if they had heard any ruckuss, and none of them had a clue what i was talking about! lol i wouldnt say anything to them, its none of their business, but if you do get a loud night, just do what i did if it makes you feel better and to be a good neighbour. the most noise i used to have is when i had a hedgehog. the sound of him running in his wheel was like that of a train running through your house!

Hiya, Sorry about all the threads, I'm posting Sheesh, tell me about it!!! LOL I also live in an apartment block with neighbours above, below and to the right and I've never had a complaint about the suggie barking. I'm sure that if one of the neighbours was able to hear them, it would be next door, but it's unlikely they would anyway. I've had a proper bite, but it wasn't anything aggressive, I was holding a pot of morioworms, and one must've mistaken a little finger as a large morio. Like Jen says, It's something I would rather not experience again. Properly bled it did, ooooh the profanities that flew out of my mouth! lol But it's unlikely that they'd bite you during bonding, they'd more than likely crab at you (which will make you crap yourself especially if you're not expecting it!) lol
