I am so lucky to live in a state in the US where gliders are rarely sold and almost no one knows what one is. The humane societies don't even know about them. It's so much better to have them more difficult to obtain than to have hundreds or thousands in rescue. There are some rescues in the southern part of our state but that's also where a few breeders live, too. It's often probably their own gliders coming back to them.

Right now, Florida and Texas have the largest populations of gliders and the largest and most active rescue homes. The mill breeders are especially active in these states. Georgia has recently legalized gliders w/some restrictions. The Mill Breeder Project that we're working on has been in touch w/their legislators pleading for a law to be put into effect banning the sale of gliders at trade shows and public venues, like flea markets. That would put a damper on the mill breeders selling there.

i dont think any animal should be sold at a flea market or a show, unless they from a proper certified breeder or an approved breeder. i know people do it with rats and ferrets and what have you, but i dont think any Tom, Dick or Harry should be able to buy one or sell one.

These mill breeders come w/cages of joeys...usually too young to be separated from parents. I saw them at one venue (a motorcylce festival) and they had over 30 joeys in each cage. It was horrible.

Happy to say that Heidi and Chevs coats look perfect! However, their tail hair is extremely thin. and on the top side of their tails they have what i think is an almost bald stripe. (could just be severe seperation) It is on the same place on both gliders but Heidi's is worse. The tip of her tail is also very visible, very thin fur there. The stripe is central on the tail (if you continued their black stripe down their tail it would join onto it perfectly.) They seem fine in every other way, good appetitie ,sparkly eyes, sleek fur, very alert and extremely mischevious!! (also a tendancy to jump from their ceiling jungle gym onto your face) Any thoughts on the baldy strip? other than a comb over! P.s i have noticed no over grooming or behavior change, they do sleep with their tails wrapped round them selves cuddling them, maybe its there version of waking up with a big red line on your face? thanks in advance for any feedback. hi i,ve just been looking at all the fur pics and although i know alot is down to the right diet, i coud,nt help thinking in some of the pics the fur looks the same as my chinchillas does when there in need of a dust bath cause they get a build up of oils that makes there fur look seperated. soon as they,ve had there bath thay look all smooth and fluffy again. i have read gliders don,t need any kind of bathing so was wonderin how they look after there coats!!

No, definately don't need dust baths. They look after their coat by grooming. On both back feet they have two fused toes which are used for grooming.
