I'm late to the discussion here but had to say...

We can't be ALL that shocked that Americans (I am one) feed their gliders Wal-Mart diets...they feed themselves no better!  Smiley  I'm sure they are buying their own groceries right alongside their suggies...after a quick stop at McDonald's! LOL

I think it's very nice to have an OPEN forum here for diet and other things.  We can all learn together and grow together by staying open minded. It doesn't mean people have to change their glider diet if they don't want to, but how can people make improvements OR confident choices if they aren't even informed of the alternatives?  I don't think there is anything wrong with someone CHOOSING to use BML if they understand their choice from all angles and feel confident in it in spite of other information. But I do often wonder...don't people realize that we are constantly changing and improving what is important in the HUMAN diet, and we know far, far more about our nutrition?  I just wonder why it seems that all glider nutrition must stand still without progress. I'm glad to see there's an open forum for whatever diet choices and questions people have...whether that ultimately leads them to being fully satisfied with BML, or an alternative. Thanks for being welcoming to those of us who like to THINK alongside acting. Smiley

Just noticed an error in the Healesville diet... its one teaspoon not a tablespoon serving for the artificial nectar (originally called leadbeater's) mix.

Also that Taronga diet is an old one .They no longer feed day old chicks, and also feed Kangaroo cubes in the diet now. I don't have the new diet in front of me though to see if there are any other changes.

I'll correct the teaspoon/tablespoon and if you do get the info if you could post the new diet, although this isn't a commonly used diet over here it's good to see comparisons between the different diets i think!  Kangaroo cubes eh? Hmmmm, lol, don't think there will be too many of them!

No the Healesville diet says

3ml Nectar mix. (1 tablespoon per Glider)

It should be
3ml Nectar mix. (1 tspn per Glider)

Forgive me if if I am being dumb, as I am new to this, I do not have any gliders yet however I am trying to research as much as I can and am finding all this info confusing!! All I seem to get from this forum is that it's a witch hunt aimed at a certain person who owns a certain shop.  Also marie, what you have posted here regarding what taronga zoo feed thier gliders, which are native animals to that zoo, forgive me if I am wrong but it is vertually exactly the same as what is detailed on a certain persons care sheet!! Minus a difference in opinion about what multivitamin to use and the quantities to mix up. Again forgive me if I am wrong but it seems like you and a certain person are singing off the same song sheet but there is also a little bit of a sour felling towards a certain person and everyone wants some extra karma points!!

My personal opinion of this certain person in question is that he is a very knowledgable man who knows exactly what he is talking about and to be honest would not have got to be in his position if he didn't!!

Pow karma points for me!!

If you dont have gliders yet and if you really are doing the research that you are saying you are doing then the above statement is complete bollocks and you would know that.

How can advisng people that related gliders dont breed be classed as knowledgeable? And as for getting into his position, I know plenty of pet shop owners (cos lets not forget, thats what he is) who talk the talk but cannot walk the walk, hell i used to work for one!

My personal opinion of this "certain person in question" from reading interviews and having to help sort out disgruntled customers of his is that he is some big shot who thinks he is doing right and that everyone else is wrong. You cannot be a pet owner with that kind of mindframe! You have to accept that other people may have better care methods then you, and that other people may be more knowledgeable in certain areas.

I've posted the diet here not because I'm singing off anyones song sheet, purely because it's a diet.  I do not feed the diet, I do not advise people use the diet. It is on a certain person's website yes, but with his own modifications.  There is no witchhunt, the man spouts rubbish, and he lies and that's from my own personal experiences!

He's not in any position, he's got a shop, so have I!  - he may have told you that he's the only person in the UK with a license - there is no license required for breeding gliders.  He might have told you that he's the only person registered with the ISGA, the ISGA is defunct, the site hasn't been updated for years, and personally I wouldn't want to be associated with any organisation that recommends 'tying off' as a recommended method of neutering.

If all you get from this forum is a witch hunt against MA, then you can't have read any of the other threads, there are actually very few references, there are a couple of threads one started by me at the request of someone else who was that disgusted by what they heard (their personal experince) they asked me to post it!  At the end of the day, people are giving their personal experiences with him and I go by my own personal experiences too.

Oh and no pow I'm afraid, karma points are for when someone has done something good and helped someone.

And the differences in opinions with the vit supplement, Vionate has a ca:p ratio of 1.5:1 whereas Nutrobal has a ratio of 46:1!!  That's MA's inclusion, a supp with a dangerously high ratio. Smiley
